About Albert Einstein and Relativity
Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist best known for developing the theory of relativity. Einstein also made important contributions to quantum theory. His mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2, which arises from special relativity, has been called “the world’s most famous equation”. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for “his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect”.
The theory of relativity comprises two physics theories by Albert Einstein: special relativity and general relativity, proposed and published in 1905 and 1915, respectively. Special relativity applies to all physical phenomena in the absence of gravity. General relativity explains the law of gravitation and its relation to the forces of nature. It applies to the cosmological and astrophysical realm, including astronomy.
The theory transformed theoretical physics and astronomy during the 20th century, superseding a 200-year-old theory of mechanics created primarily by Isaac Newton. It introduced concepts including 4-dimensional spacetime as a unified entity of space and time, relativity of simultaneity, kinematic and gravitational time dilation, and length contraction. In the field of physics, relativity improved the science of elementary particles and their fundamental interactions, along with ushering in the nuclear age. With relativity, cosmology and astrophysics predicted extraordinary astronomical phenomena such as neutron stars, black holes, and gravitational waves.

About Friedrich Nietzsche and Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (15 October 1844 – 25 August 1900) was a German philosopher and writer who started his career as a classical philologist and turned to philosophy early in his academic career. In 1869, at age 24, he was appointed Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Basel. Plagued by health problems for most of his life, he resigned from the university in 1879. He afterward lived as an independent writer, spending much of his life in relative solitude and financial insecurity while moving between Switzerland, Italy, and southern France in search of climates that might alleviate his condition, and in the following decade, he completed much of his core writing. In 1889, aged 44, he suffered a mental breakdown and thereafter a complete loss of his mental faculties, with paralysis and vascular dementia, living his remaining 11 years under the care of his family until his death. His works and his philosophy have fostered not only extensive scholarship but also much popular interest. His work centered on individual achievement and subjective reality, and he strongly criticized traditional values, particularly those rooted in organized religion. Nietzsche’s ideas challenged the idea of absolute truth, instead focusing on how individuals can create meaning in their lives to overcome nihilism.
Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a philosophical novel written by Friedrich Nietzsche between 1883 and 1885, that introduces key concepts like the “death of God,” the Übermensch (Overman), and the will to power through the allegorical figure of Zarathustra. It is a poetic and narrative work that critiques traditional morality, particularly Christian values, and calls for humanity to overcome itself and create new values. The book is considered a masterpiece and a foundational text in Western literature, blending story, sermon, and philosophy.

First published in 1859, On the Origin of Species presented Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. The book transformed biology and influenced philosophy, religion, and science throughout the world.
This edition reproduces the historic 1859 text for modern readers, allowing modern readers to explore one of the most important works in the history of science.
On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin that is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. It was published on 24 November 1859. Darwin’s book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection, although Lamarckism was also included as a mechanism of lesser importance. The book presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin included evidence that he had collected on the Beagle expedition in the 1830s and his subsequent findings from research, correspondence, and experimentation.
Darwin supports his theory with detailed observations from plant and animal breeding, comparative anatomy, the fossil record, and the geographic distribution of species. His famous “tree of life” diagram illustrates how all species share common ancestry and branch out over time.

This volume presents a selection of the most important writings of Marie Curie, one of the most influential scientists in modern history. Through her groundbreaking research into radioactivity, Curie helped open an entirely new field of scientific discovery that would transform physics, chemistry, and medicine.
The Marie Curie Collection: Writings, Scientific Papers, and Lectures brings together several of Curie’s most significant works, offering readers a unique opportunity to explore her scientific ideas in her own words.
Included in this collection are:
• Pierre Curie (1923), Marie Curie’s biography of her husband and scientific collaborator Pierre Curie
• Autobiographical Notes (1923), Curie’s reflections on her early life and scientific career
• The Discovery of Radium (1921), a lecture describing the experiments that led to the identification of one of the most remarkable elements in modern science
• The Nobel Prize Lecture (1911), delivered after Curie received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her work on radioactive substances
Together these writings provide insight into the history of the discovery of Radium, the development of the study of Radioactivity, and the intellectual partnership that shaped one of the most remarkable scientific achievements of the twentieth century.
More than a century after her discoveries, Marie Curie’s work continues to influence research in nuclear physics, chemistry, and medical science. This carefully prepared edition brings together her writings for readers interested in the history of science, Nobel Prize discoveries, and the life of one of the most remarkable scientists of all time.
