William Somerset Maugham (25 January 1874 – 16 December 1965) was an English writer, known for his plays, novels and short stories.
Born in Paris, where he spent his first ten years, Maugham was schooled in England and went to a German university. He became a medical student in London and qualified as a physician in 1897. He never practiced medicine, and became a full-time writer.
His first novel, Liza of Lambeth (1897), a study of life in the slums, attracted attention, but it was as a playwright that he first achieved national celebrity.
Maugham’s novels after Liza of Lambeth include Of Human Bondage (1915), The Moon and Sixpence (1919), The Painted Veil (1925), Cakes and Ale (1930) and The Razor’s Edge (1944). His short stories were published in collections such as The Casuarina Tree (1926) and The Mixture as Before (1940); many of them have been adapted for radio, cinema and television. His great popularity and prodigious sales provoked adverse reactions from highbrow critics, many of whom sought to belittle him as merely competent.
The Moon and Sixpence is a novel by Somerset Maugham, first published on 15 April 1919. It is told in episodic form by a first-person narrator providing a series of glimpses into the mind and soul of the central character, Charles Strickland, a middle-aged English stockbroker, who abandons his wife and children abruptly to pursue his desire to become an artist. The story is, in part, based on the life of the painter Paul Gauguin.

Emily Jane Brontë (30 July 1818 – 19 December 1848) was an English writer best known for her 1847 novel Wuthering Heights. She also co-authored a book of poetry with her sisters Charlotte and Anne entitled Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell.
Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights was first published in London by Thomas Cautley Newby, shortly after the publication and immediate success in October 1847 of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. Thomas Newby, who had been very slow to deal with Emily and Anne, finally saw the advantage of using the family connection, and published Wuthering Heights in December 1847.
The novel, a Gothic story of doomed love, hate, revenge and the supernatural, deals with the relationships of various couples in and around the farmhouse of the title.
Despite mixed reviews at the time, Wuthering Heights is now widely regarded as one of the greatest novels in English literature. It is controversial for its depictions of psychological and physical abuse (including domestic violence) and its challenge to the moral, religious, and class systems of the Victorian era.

The Diamond Sutra: The Perfection of Wisdom Jingangjing 金刚经英文版本在竹和松出版社出版了。
The Buddhist scriptures are as vast as the great ocean and as brilliant as a sky full of stars. Yet for modern readers, it can feel difficult to know where to begin – and few have the time to study them all.
In truth, among the many Buddhist texts, there are two that stand above the rest, each word precious and profound. Reading these two is equivalent to absorbing the very essence of Buddhism. Moreover, both are concise and refined – perfectly suited for modern people to read, recite, and reflect upon in daily life to cultivate inner peace and virtue.
These two scriptures are The Diamond Sutra and The Heart Sutra. Of these, The Heart Sutra is particularly short – just two pages long – and thus cannot form a standalone book. Therefore, Bamboo & Pine Press has included it as an appendix, for readers’ convenience and easy reference.
The Diamond Sutra is also relatively short. The concept of culture is not decided on whether Chinese language or script had arrived。The reason why the cultures of Shang and Zhou dynasties failed to block the transmission of Shanhaijing is because the desire of the following generations of readers to know what secret information it contains between its lines.
